What began as a simple idea to hire an ice cream truck for a fun end-of-camp celebration in June 2023 quickly transformed into something much bigger. My 11-year-old son, Braden, ended up taking over Yay Big Yay High Yay Ice Cream, previously run by another young entrepreneur. The Fitzpatrick family, including their son Gabriel, founded the business during the 2020 quarantine. Their idea was to bring a tiny ice cream truck around neighborhoods, offering sweet treats at birthday parties and school events, and spreading smiles wherever they went. By the end of 2020, their vision became a reality, and Yay Big Yay High Yay Ice Cream was born, complete with two charming micro trucks—Inky and Pinky. As we were arranging for Pinky to come to our sports camp, I got talking to the Fitzpatricks about the business. It turned out they were planning to move out of state and hadn’t yet figured out what to do with the trucks. In that moment, I asked, “What are you doing with the ice cream trucks?” They weren’t sure, but they loved the idea that local families could continue enjoying Inky and Pinky in Everett and surrounding areas. A month later, Braden “adopted” the ice cream trucks and became the proud new owner and operator of Yay Big Yay High Yay Ice Cream. From lemonade stands to school fundraisers, Braden has always had a passion for running his own little businesses, and he threw himself wholeheartedly into this new adventure. The day we officially "adopted" the trucks, I’ve never seen him so excited or happy. After completing our first full summer, we’re gearing up for this year's spring/summer season! Braden can’t wait, and as the weather warms up, our trucks will be stocked with an even greater variety of delicious frozen treats. We’ve added a few new items to our menu, and we can’t wait to share them with you. Pinky is our vibrant pink Honda Acty micro truck, and Inky is our Mitsubishi Minica micro box truck.
